Happy new year and happy new decade!
We’ll start the year with a bit of a look back at the past year. I had a look at our best selling T-shirts in 2009 - all year, all countries. Since some of the designs are around in variations (like in one color and two color versions for example) and others belong together by subject, I decided to sum up the subjects that belong together. This leads us to Shirtcity’s Top Ten T-Shirt trends 2009:
10. How I Met Your Mother T-Shirts

How I Met Your Mother T-Shirts from 19,95 $
2009 marked the international breakthrough of the series - especially Spanish customers helped the series’ quotes (by the incomparable Barney Stinson) gather the Top 10 spot. Legen … wait for it … dary!!
9. The Big Lebowski T-Shirts

Dudical! Big Lebowski T-Shirts from 19.95 $
A newcomer in our most wanted designs. 2009 saw another Coen movie with considerable success - Burn After Reading - while A Serious Man is the next in line - but will they ever make another film of which a classic character like The Dude emerges? We don’t think but we sure hope so. The Dude T-Shirt was one of the most popular Designs in 2009. In Dude you trust.
8. Barack Obama T-Shirts

Barack Obama T-Shirt from 19,95 $
What Barack Obama did not achieve in 2009: Close down Guantanamo, end the economical crisis, end the wars in Afghanistan, the Gaza strip and Iran, lead the Kopenhagen climate conference to success, save the polar bears, save the world, turn water into wine and walk on the water.
What Barack Obama did achieve in 2009: not getting shot, receive Nobel peace prize, make health care reform pass the Senate and hold #8 on Shirtcity’s T-Shirt trend list. But maybe mostly due the Yes We Can T-Shirt which is still an often ordered design - but has gathered a dynamic of its own. There were significantly less orders of his portrait T-Shirt than in the election year 2008, but still enough for a top spot. And these orders came from all over the world, not so many of them from America …
7. Beer T-Shirts

Beer T-Shirts from $ 19.95
Cheers.
6. T-Shirts for Mom and Dad

T-Shirts for Mom and Dad from $ 19.95
Obvious, right? Everybody’s got two parents, and most often they’re the best parents in the world. Then there are several occasions that you need a personal gift: birthdays, christmas, mother’s day, father’s day. This is where our Mom and Dad T-Shirts come into play.
Surprise: the World’s Best Mom T-Shirt beats our all time classic Mom Deluxe as the most chosen design.
5. The I Love T-Shirt

I Love + Custom Text T-shirt from 22,95 $
Everybody knows the I ♥ NY T-Shirt - thus there are gazillions of variations (check this list of the best ones!). You can easily make your own: just load our I Love + Text T-Shirt into the shirt designer, add your text (the right font is American Typewriter which should be preselected) - and there you go. We’re happy that so many customers enjoyed this idea and took the opportunity to love all that is lovable.
4. Bud Spencer T-Shirts

Bud Spencer T-Shirts from 19.95 $
Though we added some new one this year - buddy, one of the Designs it all started with, was one of the most wanted shirts again this year. The dark face on the left was ordered slightly more than the outline on the right, made for dark T-shirts. I guess like the films these never get old. Anyone still without a Bud Spencer T-Shirt?
3. Game Over T-Shirt

Game Over T-Shirt from 19.95 $
Like the year before the Game Over T-Shirt (with the blocky writing, left) was the single most sold design by far. People keep on marrying (I also have the first invitations for weddings in 2010), people will need wedding T-Shirts. We provide a huge range of designs in our bachelor T-Shirts section to get you dressed for the best stag or hen night you could ever dream of. However, most people go for the classic best-seller.
2. House, MD T-Shirts

House MD Shirt from 19,95 $
We couldn’t help but recognize how popular our TV series shirts were (a big shout-out to the Spanish customers here again). You liked our designs about the Big Bang Theory, Heroes or - see #10 on this list. Anyway: Nothing against the popularity of Dr. Gregory House. The grumpy medical genius still kicks ass. His portrait with his motto “Everybody lies” is the most popular, but you also like the practical House Kit. And House is only second to …
1. LOST T-Shirts

LOST T-Shirts $ 19.95
Maybe it’s because of our selection of LOST T-Shirts - all made by serious LOST junkies in our office. At first it looked like Game Over or House would make it. But adding up the numbers of designs sold LOST emerged as our top T-shirt trend in 2009. You particularly liked the Dharma T-Shirt, the Oceanic airlines T-Shirt and the famous sequence of numbers.
